Packing with Alpacas

Although alpacas are not usually known for packing, we decided to take a walk with two of our males on the trail.  With water bottles and a couple of energy bars in their packs, we decided to hit the mountain path with our four year old twin niece and nephew for a summer hike.

Hiking with alpacas.JPG We hiked up hills and over rocks, enjoyed the sweet smell of pine trees and sunshine in the air.

I was surprised how willing they were to wade through the deeper creeks with little hesitation.

It was a great way to spend time with family.  Alpacas really cannot carry that much - up to 20% of their body weight.  But even sharing the trail with dogs, horses and bicyclists, our boys did great and may have even enjoyed themselves.

A perfect Summer day.
